Busy Time!

What a busy, busy time of year!  With the unseasonable warm weather we're experiencing, we're seeing green everywhere!  The grass is green, trees are budding, plants are being transplanted and seeds are sprouting throughout our gardens.  We had nice rains last week.  This is a dream for gardeners in Northwest Missouri!

We stay cognizant of the fact that a cold spell could still come and give us all kinds of trouble, but we are going ahead and planting some things much earlier than usual in the hope that it does not turn cold.  If it does, we have only lost some seed and time.  It can be replanted.  It the weather stays nice, we will all be able to enjoy fresh, local produce earlier than usual!

So far we have planted in our gardens or greenhouse:

  • Arugula
  • Beets-(Detroit Dark Red and Cylindra)
  • Broccoli-(Packman and Premium Crop)
  • Cabbage-(Stonehead)
  • Carrots-(Imperators)
  • Chard-(Rainbow)
  • Cucumbers(National Pickling and Straight Eights)
  • Eggplant
  • Herbs-(Basil, Cilantro, Dill, Oregano, Rosemary, Sage)
  • Kale
  • Lettuce (Head-Buttercrunch, Iceberg, and Romaine)
  • Lettuce (Leaf-Oak Leaf, Salad Bowl, Mesculin)
  • Mustard
  • Onions-(Green, Yellow, Red and Whites)
  • Peppers-(Hot-Serrano, Anaheim Chili, Jalapeno, Long Red Chili's)
  • Peppers-(Sweet-Banana, Red/Green/Purple/Gold Bells)
  • Potatoes-(Reds and Golds)
  • Radishes-(Red Cherry, Icicle and the huge German Giant)
  • Spinach
  • Squash-(Summer-Zucchini and Yellow Crooknecks)
  • Tomatoes
  • Turnips
  • Watermelons-(Yeah, we're really gambling on the weather here, but why not?)
Stay tuned!
